MIMESIS - GALLERY INTERVENTION
The design intervention from Alvaro Siza to Richard Serra involves the transfer of design from Siza to Serra, making Serra's sculptures define the space and form, changing the overall lightness of Siza’s space to a maze of light and sculpture. The light plays with the form of both sculpture and architecture givng endless movement and defining the space inside and out.
Physical model devolped to get the full effect and to see the true day lighting within the space.
I chose Richard Serra's sculptures to be the main exhibition of the gallery as I thought his sculptures shared similar architectural qualities to that of the Mimesis not only in their form, but also in the starkness of their materiality and how they drive and interact with users rather than being static objects.
A precedent study of the Mimesis muesem by Alvaro Siza.
